youíve settled in to your new site, but then
you realize that itís starting to get dark
and you donít have anywhere to sleep. Well
thatís when Kabluey comes in. Heís
got some safe ways to build a shelter that will
keep you warm and snug all night long.

Shelter
is the means by which you protect your body from
excess exposure to Sun, Cold, Wind, Rain or Snow.
Anything that takes away or that adds to your
overall body temperature can be your worst
enemy.

Clothing
is the first line of shelter protection, have the
right clothing for the right environment so if its
raining and you are still quite hot, donít
go around wearing shorts and a T- Shirt, a little
thing like that can get you in to some major
trouble later on.

|
Always
have a hat. Although Kabluey is a safe tramping
kiwi he knows all about being Sun smart.
|
|
Try
to keep the layer of clothing that is against your
body dry. On the outside wear waterproof clothing
etc. In doing this you are sure to keep dry,
thereís nothing worse than hiking along in
wet clothes it can also lead you to get hypothermia
and related problems. Plus wearing layers of
clothing is much warmer than one big thick warm
garment. Layers of clothing trap air.

Do
not spend your precious time building a shelter if
nature has already provided you with one. Fallen
branches and leaves can provide you with a warm and
efficient shelter.

Practice
building a shelter that is quick and that you can
rely on if you donít get to your campsite on
schedule do not wait until you need to make one.
There is nothing worse than being stuck in the bush
with no resources especially without your beds.

|
Use
a SPACE BLANKET to prevent dampness, insulate your
shelter or to wrap yourself up in a sitting or
squat position to concentrate the heat into your
body.

|
So
now you know how to make a shelter, if all else
fails you know how to stay warm and safe in the
