Turquoise

Turquoise is a mineral (along with jade and lapis lazuli) that has been used in stone carvings for thousands of years. This mineral occurs as veins in rock, and can be either blue or green in color. The name Turquoise is itself the name for a shade of color that is greenish-blue.

A lot of turquoise is mined in the United States, and mounted in silver jewelry. The stone, like jade and lapis lazuli, is not transparent, and is cut and polished in a smooth rounded shape. It is not faceted like a transparent gemstone.
