Bloodstone is the name for the
semiprecious stone of dark green chalcedony spotted with red
jasper. The stone, whose spots look like blood, has been
used for jewelry when polished for many many
years.
India is the major source, but it is
also found in South America, China, Australia, the U.S.A,
and the Hebrides Islands in Scotland.
The red spots were once thought
during the Middle Ages to be drops of Christ's blood, and
that the stone held special powers.
