Live animals

You can't bring in live birds or animals unless you have arranged to do it properly.

They will usually have to go into quarantine for a while before they can go home with you.

An animal can have worms inside it, or germs that we can't see. If it plays with other animals, it can spread a disease, like rabies, that we don't have in our country. That would kill lots of pets, and also kill people too!

If you bring your dog or cat with you, it must go and stay in quarantine for some time. How long it stays, depends on what country you came from.

In quarantine, it is kept away from other animals, and looked after carefully to make sure it does not get sick.

After a while, it can go back home with you again.
