Events in New Zealand

Annalise Coberger carried the flame down the slopes of Coronet Peak, in Queenstown. She was on skis.

Scarlett Hagan carried the torch in a special holder on her bike as she rode down the mountain.

Oops! It seems to have fallen off! You can see why the torch needs to be sturdy. (For safety, it goes out if it lies flat for longer than 5 seconds).

In Rotorua, the torch was run through a Maori group performing a haka.

Beatrice Faumuina was the first person to carry the torch when it arrived in Auckland. Many school children came out to watch the progress of the torch, even though it rained a lot that day.

When the torch arrived at the steps of Auckland Museum, John Walker used it to light the cauldron placed there. This was the last stop before the flame was transported to Australia.

There was a special ceremony, and then the flame was carried by lantern again to Auckland airport. Next stop, Ulurulu (or Ayres Rock) in Australia.

Only 99 days to go!
