. . . . .. .. . . . . .
Race 3 - and we were all so hopeful. The weather was fine, and there was a good breeze. The sea was not as rough as on Saturday, luckily. We put the TV on in the library, and teachers and parents popped in during the afternoon to watch the progress of the race. |
Alinghi crossed the mark first, and they chose to sail down the right hand side of the course, while Team New Zealand chose the left. Then the wind shifted, and that meant that the boat on the right side was given a real boost, and took on a big lead. |
Round every mark, Alinghi was ahead, even though Team New Zealand managed to get a little closer each time until the last mark. But as they came down to the finish line, it was clear that they could not overtake the boat in front, and they lost by 23 seconds. |
