Slideshow Planning Guide for ______________________ Group

You can print this out to use as a guide for what should go on each page of your slideshow. Remember to check the rules first! The first section tells you what should be included on the actual page of the slideshow (you can add more if you wish), and the Explain section in italics tells you what you should be talking about during the presentation.

Page 1: Main Menu. Include a title, a picture, and the names of your group (in smaller font size). [Explain - introduce the group, and say what role each person had, and explain who the group leader was.]

Page 2: Rainforests. Include a diagram you have drawn, showing a side view of a rainforest, labelled, and showing the different layers. [Explain - explain what a rainforest is, and talk about the different layers, and the kinds of creatures that live in them. Say why so many different kinds of animals live in a rainforest.]

Page 3: Food web. Include your own, original example of a food web, using rainforest examples. It should be a detrital web, not a grazing web. Include sun, trees and plants, herbivores, carnivores, and scavengers and bacteria in the soil. [Explain - explain how energy from the sun is transferred to plants, and then to animals - go through each bit of the web, explaining what part is played by each. Explain what happens if one part of the food chain is changed in any way, and give an example.]

Page 4: Producers. Include a heading, and a drawing of a South American rainforest tree. [Explain - tell people how it provides food and shelter for animals in the rainforest.]

Page 5: Herbivores. Include a heading and images of two herbivores that live in the Amazon. They could be birds, amphibians, reptiles or mammals. [Explain - tell us what a herbivore is, and their importance in a food chain. Give information about each herbivore shown, including the name, diet, habitat and what its predators are.]

Page 6: Carnivores. Include a heading and images of two carnivores that live in the Amazon. They could be birds, amphibians, reptiles or mammals. [Explain - tell us what a carnivore is, and their importance in a food chain. Give information about each carnivore shown, including the name, diet, habitat, and predators (if it has any).]

Page 7: Omnivores. Include a heading and images of an omnivore that lives in the Amazon. It could be a bird, amphibian, reptile or mammal. [Explain - tell us what an omnivore is, and their importance in a food chain. Give information about the omnivore shown, including the name, diet, habitat, and predators (if it has any).]

Page 8: Scavengers. Include a heading and a drawing or picture of detritus, and a drawing or picture of a scavenger. [Explain - explain the meaning of detritus, and of scavenger, and tell us the importance of scavengers in the food chain. Explain what the scavenger you chose eats, and where it lives.]

Page 9: Destruction of rainforests. Include a heading, and your own diagram or drawing showing the damage done by clearing rainforest. Put keywords around the diagram with reasons for the destruction. [Explain - explain why rainforests are being destroyed, talking about each keyword in turn. Give OPVs - at least two "other points of view" for every reason, so we hear why some people think we should do it, and why some people think we shouldn't.]

Page 10: ?? Your choice as to what to put on the page, and what to talk about.

Page 11: Your opinion. This is the final slide, so it should contain a question or a sentence, and an image. [Explain - what your conclusion is, and what you want people to go away and do, or think about, in the future.]

Page 12: Bibliography. Include a heading for books, then give title and author for each, and a heading for URLs. [Explain - say "this is where we got our information and images from", and then point out what the most useful resource was.]

This is only a guide for your slideshow, and if you think you need more than one page for a particular heading, you can add in more pages at any time. In particular, you may want more pages like page 10, where you can elaborate on an issue that interests you.
