Letters from Kids LikeYou!

Writing letters to the presidents of companies, or corporations, that destroy the rainforest is a very powerful thing to do. Unfortunately, there are many corporations that destroy the rainforest by logging the trees, drilling for oil, or using rainforest beef in their products. Tell the company that you care about the people and animals that live in the rainforests.

Here are a few letters that kids have written:

Letters to Citigroup:

Dear Mr. Weill,

My name is Ryan, and I am in fourth grade and studying the rainforest. I find that more and more rainforest is being chopped down and less is being preserved. Since that is the case, companies are chopping down more rainforest than what should be chopped down. That would not be a problem if more trees were being planted, but they aren't. If someone you knew were to get cancer, there would be no cure if there were no rainforest.

Why I'm writing this letter to you and not to the companies that are chopping down the rainforest is because your bank supplies them with money. I know you have some control over the situation, so I beg of you to do what you can to get it under control.

Sincerely,
Ryan

Dear Mr. Weill,

My name is Aekta and I am in the 4th grade at Canyon Rim Elementary. I am studying about the rainforest. I recently did a report on the kinkajou. The kinkajou is not an endangered species, but if you keep lending companies who cut the rainforest money, then soon it may be endangered. It makes me mad and very sad that people cut down the rainforest, and you should be too. Do you know what the rainforest provides for us? The rainforest provides chocolate, oxygen, and a lot of the plants used for medicine. I hear you lend money to the people who cut it down.

I know that you will just think that this is just some letter from a fourth grader, but I guarantee you that all my relatives will find some other bank, unless you stop lending money to rainforest destroyers. If you stop lending them money, them my relatives won't move to another bank. I have spoken to my relatives in New York and they will be taking their money out of Citibank.

Did you know that 70% of the plants used to fight cancer are found only in the rainforest? If you know all of this already then you shouldn't have been lending money to the companies who cut it down, but to people who preserve it. All I ask you is to stop lending money to people who ruin the rainforest.

Thank you for your time and understanding,

Aekta

Dear Mr. Weill,

Hi, I'm Eric, a fourth grade student that goes to a school in Anaheim Hills, CA. Your company loans money to other companies that cut down the rainforest. Last month I did a report on the tree frog. Some of my animal's species are becoming extinct, and one of them already is. Between 1950 and 2001 half of the ancient rainforest has been cut down. Most of the world's medicines (70% of cancer medicines) are only found in the rainforest. If we cut it down, many of the animals that live there will die!

So please, I'm just asking you to stop lending money to companies who are just going to cut the rainforest down. I really thank you for reading my letter, and if you stop loaning money to those companies, you will become a hero.

Sincerely,
Eric
