Pitcairn is one small rocky island, and can only be reached by boat.

It was first settled after some sailors on a ship called the Bounty had a mutiny, and put their captain in a little rowing boat with a few other sailors, some food and water, and set him adrift.

The rest of them stole the Bounty, sailed to Tahiti where they took Tahitian women to be their wives, and sailed to Pitcairn Island to live.

Less than fifty people live there at present, although other Pitcairners descended from the original settlers live in other parts of the world.

The only way to get in to shore is by longboat. This meets you out on your boat, and then brings you in to the dock.

All the supplies used by the islanders have to come in this way.

There is a tiny little school on the island, and the children can contact other people in the world by using their computer on the internet.

Pitcairn is run by New Zealand, so the official language is English.

There is no coral reef around Pitcairn Island.

If you go there, there are no hotels or motels. You have to stay with one of the families that live on the island.
