What can you put in your green bin?


You can recycle glass and tins and plastic and paper (note the paper goes BESIDE the bin) - but be careful! Read about what things you can and cannot recycle.

Glass

  • Drinking glasses
  • Light bulbs

Plastic

  • Detergent bottles
  • Plastic graded 1 or 2
  • Margarine tubs
  • Plastic bags
  • Plastic graded 3, 4, 5, or any higher no.
To tell the grade of plastic, check the number in the triangle on the base.

Tins

Paper
Paper & cardboard - remember, these get tied in bundles or put in plastic bags or cardboard boxes and put beside the recycling bin

So what sort of things should go in your normal rubbish bag (or rubbish bin)? Do you think you should put grass clippings in your rubbish - or is there another way to get rid of them?

FOLLOWUP

 

1. Find some examples of things you can recycle in the green bins, and those you can't. Stick them on cardboard to make a T chart to tell people about how to recycle properly.

2. Discuss what you should do with the things in the "NO" list. Is there another way you could recycle those?
