The crew of Challenger were all killed. They were all Americans. The problem was found to be the failure of the rubber used to seal the solid rocket booster joints (the O-rings). It needed to expand to stop the fuel leaking out but it would not expand if the temperature was at or below 0 degrees C. On the day of the launch, the temperature was 0 degrees. |
