Stegosaurus (STEG-oh-sawr-us)

Stegosaurus was a large dinosaur, the size of an elephant, that had a brain no larger than a golf ball! It had alternating bony plates that ran across its neck, back, and tail. These plates contained blood vessels and were probably used in the regulation of heat. The Stegosaurus used four to eight spikes on the end of its tail for protection. This plant eating dinosaur lived during the end of the Jurassic time period and was found in Western North America.
