Making a Newspaper

The competition || Our story || Winning || The prize || Our advice

Making the newspaper was a real challenge for all of us and involves quite a few steps.

The first thing that was done was the teachers from the senior school drew two page categories out of a hat. That would determine what each subeditor's page was going to be.

Before actually making the newspaper, we had homework that would give us an idea what sort of things should go on the page such as advertisements and photos with the sub editors opinion and others

The next step was to choose from a list what was going on our pages. For instance, the Real Estate page had a pretend module house auction and Open Home trying to sell their classroom. Each event was put on the page as an article and photo. There was also an advert which most pages had.

The third step was the hardest because we had to actually make the events happen, write about it and possibly take photos. That is what happened during the process quite a lot of the time.

After we had done all of that, we had to put everything on the page and make it look good. This was hard because if there was one little out of place picture, miss Currie would tell us to fix it and print it out again.

One of the last steps was the proof reading which there was a lot of. Every page had to be proof read thoroughly.

The last bit was fun because we got to see the pages printed out in a full newspaper size. The paper also had to be put together which had to be done almost perfectly. When that was done we were finished! YAHOO!

About two weeks later Miss Currie held a meeting in the library for the subeditors which we thought was bad news. Instead, Miss Currie presented us with the news that we had won! At that minute the library was no longer a quiet place. The check for five thousand dollars is now hanging up in the library, it's a check we will never forget.

Unfortunately, one of our subeditors, Ritik had to leave and go to live in Australia before he heard the great news. However we e-mailed him and we're sure he was happy as we were when we heard the great news.

We'd also like to thank Miss Currie for her great work in pushing us so that we would make the deadline and make our paper look awesome. Also we'd like to thank the printer because it had to print out about twenty copies of every page!

Even though it was a hard job, we still enjoyed and our hard work was certainly payed off. Good luck to the 2003 subeditors!
