The Reunion Assembly

After lunch, all the children in the school went to the auditorium for assembly. First of all the culture group, trained by Mrs Munu and Miss Collins, performed to the visitors.

They were wearing the school colours, and piu piu.

Then Mr Hornby spoke to the visitors, and the students from the school.

He told them about the differences between the old days at Puhinui School, when it was in the middle of farmland, and today.

Some visitors were old students from the school, and others were teachers.

One of the teachers at the reunion, Mr Breen, started teaching at Puhinui School two terms after it opened in 1953!

The next person to speak was Mrs Alabaster.

She told everyone what it was like when she started school at Puhinui fifty years ago.

She was the youngest pupil to start when the school opened, because she was only four years old!

The school sang three songs to the audience, while Mrs Bird played the piano.

Two Year 6 students then spoke to the assembly; Byron Grant and Aleesha Coulter.

They told the visitors what they liked about going to school at Puhinui. Byron talked about sports and other activities, and Aleesha talked about friends, and what happened inside the classrooms.

Byron wants to come back for Puhinui School's 100th birthday!
