The boarding house has a long history;
it was built in 1941 for students who wanted to attend Komei but lived far away
and were unable to commute. Recently, though, even kids who live in the school's
neighborhood have asked to be allowed to stay there. By living together with their
friends and not depending on their parents, they learn to do things by themselves.
The
children living in the boarding house wake up at 6:20 on school days. After getting
dressed and having breakfast, they go to school at 8:45. Following school, they
come back to the boarding house and have dinner together at 5:15. After dinner
is finished, the students have free time until about 8:00, during which they watch
TV and play with their friends. They have to be back in their rooms and be ready
for bed at 9:00.
