Konnichiwa, that means Good afternoon.

You say Konnichiwa after 12pm. You have to remember when to say which greeting as it is rude to say the wrong greeting and people stare at you funny.

At lunchtime today which is about 12.40pm I went up to a third year class and had a shared lunch. We had some Japanese food and some Western food.

I ate fried chicken which was homemade by one of the student's mothers.

I also ate a quiche like food which is actually cooked in bamboo. The bamboo is softened through cooking and they fill it with egg and cheese and beans. It tasted quite nice.

I also had a pan which is Japanese for bread(any kind of bread). It was a sweet pan called a booshi. It is in the shape of a hat as booshi is Japanese for hat.

Mrs Luke made the students sandwiches like she used to eat in New Zealand. They were very impressed that children in New Zealand eat these for lunch.

They were very full after eating the sandwiches. We also shared some New Zealand chocolate that Miss Adams sent over with me. It was delicious.

The students usually drink cold tea with their lunch that they buy at the cafeteria. They drink them out of containers like milk containers. They love tea and coffee over here and drink it all the time. They would rather drink that than soft drinks or water. They are amazed at Mrs Luke drinking her huge bottle of water each day. They think it is very strange.

I got a photo with the students so you can see it when I get back. Tonight I am spending the night with another student named Hiromi. She belongs to the Japanese archery club and is taking me there for practice. I will write another letter soon.
