Finding her cat

First of all, Miss Tatana needs to decide whether she wants to buy a grown cat, or a little kitten.

Then she needs to decide whether she is going to buy a special sort of cat from a breeder, or whether she will rescue an abandoned cat from the SPCA.

It is not usually a good idea to buy a kitten from a pet shop, because if you want to pay for a special kind of cat, it is best to go directly to the breeder. Good breeders never sell their kittens to a pet shop. And if you don't want a special sort of cat, it is better to rescue one from the SPCA, because if someone does not adopt it, it will have to be killed.

If Miss Tatana wants to buy a special sort of cat, like an Abyssinian, or a Burmese (like this little one asleep in a shoe), or a Siamese, she will have to go to someone who breeds this sort of cat.

It costs money to buy a kitten from a breeder, but there is no such thing as a free cat, remember. All pets cost money to own, and you end up spending a lot more than the first money paid!

If she decides to go to the SPCA instead, she could get all sorts of cats, but they won't be a special breed. Most of the kittens at the SPCA are there because irresponsible cat owners did not neuter their cats, and let them have kittens. Then they found they did not want the kittens, and they could not find homes for them.

Most of the kittens at the SPCA will have to be killed. Only a few lucky ones will find a new home.
