Why seven?
The number seven had great importance in those days - and it seems like a good number to go with!
What makes all these structures "wonders"?
These structures were seen, at the time when they were built, as the greatest structures on earth. They were wonders of architecture, engineering, and religion, and in most cases (e.g. the Pyramid, the Colossus) they stood for the unity of the people who built them.
What has happened to them?
Six out of seven Ancient Wonders did not survive to this present day. Some people have argued that Ancient civilizations which the Greeks did not know of, erected monuments that should have been included in the original list. Wonders such as the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in Agra, and the Temple of Angkor in Cambodia are a few examples.
