Take action photos that show things happening

Take lots of photos || Fast shutter speed || Be close to see detail || Have the shutter half down

1. Take lots of photos

If you want to catch some interesting action, you will probably have to take a lot of photos to get the one you want. Often, you will miss what you want, but if you take enough, you should manage to catch the right moment. This was the only photo of about 4 that showed the man actually in mid air.

2. Set the camera on fast shutter speed

If you don't want the photos to be blurred, you have to tell the camera to take the photo as fast as you can, so learn how to set it to fast shutter speed.

3. Be in close enough to see detail

This was taken at just the right moment, and is so close you can see every little detail of the boy's mouth!

4. Have the shutter half way down before you shout "Jump!"

When something is going to happen very fast, like someone jumping through the air, you need to be ready to take the photo before the person jumps. Get the camera ready, and focus on the person where they are, press the shutter half way down and hold, and then swing the camera back to point where the person will be mid-jump. Now you are ready to take the photo as soon as they make their leap.
